Regardless of the final makeup of the Lebanese Government, a tortuous and long process it seems, it is gratifying to read and hear in the media that local born Vera Yammine is being mentioned as a minister in the new government. It once again shows the continuous role Zgharta Zawie plays in the political landscape of Lebanon as well as in other fields.
Although not officially confirmed, nor indeed denied, it is reported by the Lebanese newspaper, An Nahar, that Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, has included her name as a Minister of State on his proposed cabinet list submitted to the President of the Republic. Whether this is political mischief or political reality, time will tell.

One of the consequences of holding the General Election on one day, Sunday 7th June, is that Lebanon's roads are anticipated to be heavily congested with cars. A small inconvenience to pay for the advantages.
Unless you live normally in Zgharta and the surrounding towns and villages, you are advised either to come on Saturday or set out early on Sunday. Part of the problem is that although voters many live in Beirut or Jounieh, to vote they are required to go to the ancestral town or village where they are registered. For some married women there is the added indignity of having to "adopt" their husband's official address as her own. Regardless of having no association, other than marriage, to the area or affinity to the candidates, she can only vote there.
