Gibrael Al Sahyouni
(also known as Gabriel Sionita) was born in Ehden 1577. At the age
of seven Patriarch Sarkis Al- Rizzi sent him to the Maronite College
in Rome.
Youssef Bey Karam was born was born
in Ehden on 5th May 1823. His
father was Sheikh Boutros Karam, the ruler of Ehden and district and
a noble of Jebbat Becharreh. His mother was Mariam, the daughter of
the well-known historian, Sheikh Antonios Abi Khatter Al Ayntourini.
He was a trained
soldier and a comrade in arms of Youssef Bey Karam during the trouble
times in the nineteenth century, when Lebanon was ruled by the Ottoman
Empire through its Governor Dawood Pasha.
Having immigrated to Mexico he donated funds to build
Mar Youhana Cathedral [Saint John], at Al Slayeb, the central district Zgharta
and also land at Sour, Zgharta to the Parish of Ehden - Zgharta for a
cemetery
Jawad Boulos Makary
was born in 1900 in Zgharta into a well-known and respected family.
His grand father, Assad Boulos, was a renowned military leader and a
comrade in arms of Youseff Bey Karam.
Many in the world do not know that the founder of the world famous
jewellers, Mouawad, and his son, who expanded its business, come from
Zgharta Zawie. The son, Fayez, is known in Zgharta Zawie for his many
charitable donations in particular being the benefactor who funded the
building of the present-day Saydat Al Hosn.
Simon Boulos, a
scion of the famous Makary family, was born on 21 March 1929 in Zgharta. He
is generally referred as such to differentiate him from other branches of
the Makary family.
Among the passengers of the Titanic were inhabitants of Zgharta a
family and two single men.The family was the Nakid family, Sahid [20 years old at the time of
the sinking] his wife Waika "Mary" Nakid (née Mouawad) [19 years old
at the time] and their daughter Maria [aged only 1 years old].
Germanos Farhat was born in 1670 at Ehden. He was an
early member of the Lebanese Maronite Order. His lasting
legacy is the Bahth al-Mataleb an influential book of Arabic grammar used
for many centuries.

Bishop Rapahel Bayan was born on 28th February 1914 in Zgharta.He was ordained a Priest in the Armenian Church on 1st November
1937 at the age of 23 years old.
